DIRECTOR OF TRAINING POSITION

The Board of Trustees for the Finishing Trades Institute of the Ohio Region is currently accepting applications for the Director of Training position.  The position needs to be filled immediately, so any applicant must be available to begin no later than July 1, 2016.
The Director of Training is responsible for, and assists the Board of Trustees in the planning, development, administration and implementation of training programs covering all of the IUPAT Finishing Trades throughout Ohio.  The job requires the coordination of the training programs for apprentices and journeymen primarily at the four separate Training Centers located in Cleveland, Columbus Toledo and Cincinnati.  While consideration will be given to all applicants, having trade experience in the IUPAT Finishing Trades is preferred.  Any applicant should also have working knowledge of the U.S. Department of Labor and Ohio State Apprenticeship Council statutory and administrative rules and regulations regarding the administration and governance of apprenticeship programs.
The opportunity requires residency in the Greater Cleveland Area as the Director of Training’s Office is located at the Strongsville Ohio Training Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in the development and administration of all training courses, policies and programs
  • Coordinates with the Finishing Trades Institute sponsored by the International IUPAT to enhance and strengthen training curriculum and instruction
  • Develops and implements effective workforce training and recruitment strategies
  • Oversees the daily operation of the apprentice and journeymen training programs
  • Supervises and assigns instructors and staff
  • Teaches classes, as necessary
  • Maintains facilities and equipment
  • Recruits apprentices and instructors
  • Coordinates FTIOR Board of Trustees meetings
  • Acts as a liaison between the local Advisory Committees across Ohio and the Board of Trustees for the FTIOR
  • Manages expenses, develops budgets and operates within the budget guidelines
  • Maintains the official records
  • Oversees the proper handling and maintenance of the apprentice training and journeyworker upgrade files, certificates and filings required by OSAC an DOL
  • Oversees and coordinates processing of expenses with Third Party Administrator
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting of all official business

QUALIFICATIONS/ KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Minimum five (5) years at journeyworker level with hands-on construction experience required, IUPAT Finishing Trades preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervision skills
  • Advance knowledge and understanding of construction process, safety procedures and extensive people skills
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Well-developed analytical, record keeping and administrative skills
  • Prior instructor experience with apprentices preferred

POSITION DETAILS

  • This is a salaried position with the salary based upon the IUPAT DC 6 general foreman wage at 48 hours of pay for 52 weeks –no overtime is paid
  • Fringe Benefits are paid based upon IUPAT DC 6 fringe package based upon 40 hours
  • Substantial statewide travel with occasional overnight stays is required
  • Classes are held days, nights and weekends – the Training Center Office is open from 8:00am -4:30pm, but the Director’s hours will extend into the evenings and weekends
