A Message from the Business Manager/Secretary Treasurer Jim Sherwood

As former District Council 6 Director of Governmental Affairs, I know how important political involvement is for the benefit of members of the IUPAT.  District Council 6 has always been and will continue to be a political powerhouse.  With a combination of contributions and “Feet on the Street”, the leadership and members of District Council 6 will support politicians who have demonstrated their understanding of the importance of organized labor.  We will never turn our backs on our political friends and will work to foster new friends.  District Council 6 will continue to have a significant political involvement under this leadership.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Jim Sherwood

A Message from the Director of Governmental Affairs Gary McPheron

The Governmental Affairs Division of this District Council strives to serve the membership by navigating through the political process to improve the work opportunities of the members. Nearly every aspect of our work is affected in some manner by politics either directly or indirectly. Economic Development is the cornerstone of our industry and is touched in every way by some government agency. Public works projects also make up a large portion of what we do and we must have some say in how that work comes out of the legislature. If we were not involved in the political process it would be a disservice to the membership.

During election cycles we work to elect public servants at all levels of Government, regardless of party affiliation that support workers and workers’ rights to Organize and Collective Bargain. We will work to defeat those who don’t support organized labor or working men and women in general. We provide the information to our members so they can make informed decisions at the ballot box. Once we help get these candidates elected our job then become to hold them accountable and make them honor their word.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Gary McPheron
